Haven't written about Gene Conti for awhile now but just received this email a couple of days ago and couldn't resist. Obviously, the above is weak on all accounts and of course I don't know if it's true or not... but I gotta say, it does seem to fit the Gene Conti profile of rippin' folks off. And even the 'family' thing wouldn't surprise me. I did ask the person to provide proof in support of the allegations, but truthfully, don't expect to hear back. But if I do, you'll read about it here.
Anyway Gene, if this is true, you should have some money to pay back what you owe me... and please, feel free to respond, I would soooo love to hear from you.
Eugene Gene Conti, former majority owner of the NOW, bank owned, Palo Verde Resort, in La Fortuna Costa Rica, never had the B@LLS to answer to this blog. Seriously, you would think someone who was supposedly a real-estate lawyer in Florida would be somewhat of a wordsmith...I mean, who writes and speaks BULLSH*T better than a lawyer...tell me they don't have that reputation? On reflection, Mr. Gene Conti could write professional looking legal documents, unfortunately for me, they often weren't worth the paper they were written on. Anyway, for someone who usually has a lot to say and considers himself somewhat of an intellect, I find it ironic and a little funny he's scared to engage with me.
I don't know Gene, when you GOOGLE your name, Eugene 'Gene' Conti, there's a LOT of unanswered questions and I'm thinking in this day and age reputation on the internet can either help or hinder- lost any business yet?

See that sign 'BCR', that's a bank here in Costa Rica and it's on the side of one of the buildings in Palo Verde (which looks like shit by the way), so obviously my last post was accurate, the Bank does now own Palo Verde. I couldn't be happier. I'm sure Gene Conti got 'his' out of Palo Verde before the bank got a hold of it but at least he couldn't squeeze any more 'manipulative dollars' out of it by selling it to some other unlucky schlub. Let's CELEBRATE!

Palo Verde Resort in La Fortuna is now FORECLOSED and owned by the bank.
Yup, a source says the bank now owns Palo Verde Resort.
Technically, I don't know if this is 100% true but it sounds like it most likely is, my source is pretty knowledgeable about the goings on of Palo Verde Resort and its principle share holder, Eugene, 'Gene' Conti. But you never really know why someone tells you something.
Obviously this would be a wet dream of mine if it's indeed true. I was NEVER going to see a dime from the SALE of Palo Verde and now if Gene Conti doesn't see a dime either, and likewise, the 'money man' and 30% owner, Larry Bernstein, I would be overjoyed. As a matter of fact, I hope they lost their ass, but I know Gene Conti, he's somewhat of a sneaky, manipulative, snake-in-the-grass in my opinion, and I'm sure he's made out over the last few years to cover his ass- I said he's sneaky, not stupid. In a similar vain, I would like to see Larry Bernstein just to tell him, "I told you so". And of course, a 'fuck you' to famous Florida real estate flipper, Robert 'Bobby' Blair who didn't have the decency to get in contact with me when he 'leased' Palo Verde for a time and knew I was part owner. But I got to give it to Bobby Blair, he was smart enough to cut and run when he saw things going south.
Normally, I'm not into dwelling on the past as it relates to anger and revenge, but when you don't have the money to 'fight' legally, this blog has been my only recourse, or 'revenge' so to speak. After all, I had to do SOMETHING, it's a crummy feeling being tossed to the side and not being able to do anything about it. I would feel somewhat vindicated if Palo Verde was now owned by the bank but I'd feel doubly good if this blog ever had someone second guessing whether they should get in bed with Gene Conti and his money-pit of a resort.
Anyway, I think it's accurate information but I will find out for sure and let you know.. and if I've spoken prematurely, I'll apologize. I did drive by Palo Verde this past week and for some reason they're ripping out all the 'lush' vegetation and it's now looking like a mini-ghost town. I'm thinking a bulldozer might be next. We'll see.

Eugene Gene Conti, principle owner of Palo Verde Resort in La Fortuna Costa Rica, has DICKED other folks in business dealings besides me if my emails are any indication.
I'm not saying Gene Conti dicked anyone over per se, I just know MY experience with him, BUT what I am saying, is since I've started this blog I've had quite a few folks come out of the woodwork and tell me their 'Gene Conti' story. And actually, as I write this, one guy is putting his 'Gene Conti' story together in order to SHARE on this blog. We'll see if he comes through,,, and again, not saying anything is TRUE or UNTRUE, but I can tell you, the emails do seem to share a common theme- A slick politician masked as a friend calling himself, Gene Conti, telling you want you want to hear in order to either get what he wants or separate you from your money. When confronted, Gene Conti plays the, "Whatever are you talking about?" card.
Common theme indeed.

Palo Verde Resort in La Fortuna was once appraised at $1.4 million dollars according to the owner, Eugene 'Gene' Conti. Now, it's listed on Craigslist as a 'FIRE SALE' for $375,000. BUMMER!
In my last post just a few days ago, I didn't know about the Craigslist ad. It appears from the ad that Palo Verde and Gene Conti were asking $700,000 but now are having a FIRE SALE for $375,000 and offering 80% financing. Apparently, Karma just won't leave Gene Conti alone. Of course they don't really help themselves when they post pics that don't exist, like this one of the bar/party area.
This bar, which back in the day, hosted some kick-ass GAY parties, no longer exists and is now a cement slab. Why it is posted in the realtor's Palo Verde photo gallery is beyond me.
And then there's the Palo Verde pool (below). As this pic illustrates, looks pretty inviting don't you think, but don't dive in, you'll break your neck as it's really an oversized wading pool. I'm certain whoever purchases Palo Verde will undoubtedly have to 'fill in' the pool. It's pretty useless with the exception of looking good in a photo. Don't believe me? Palo Verde has turned into an Amityville Horror of sorts- so much baggage, it's like, why would you bother- but then again, some people like horror flicks.
My prediction is this: Whoever purchases Palo Verde will do so for the land and wind up bulldozing anyway, so my FINAL offer would be no more $245,000, I think Karma would be okay with that.

Seems Eugene 'Gene' Conti is having a hard time finding a buyer for Palo Verde Resort in La Fortuna Costa Rica. That's gotta SUCK.
Actually, I don't really know what's going on with Palo Verde since Gene Conti has kept me in the dark pretty much ever since I started writing this blog. I guess owning 10% of a business doesn't necessarily get you into the meetings. Owning 10% sure didn't mean anything when Gene Conti signed some sort of 'Lease Option to Buy' with Robert 'Bobby' Blair of Florida and Bobby changed the name of Palo Verde to Arenal Bungalows. That deal obviously fell through.
I recently heard through the grapevine that some doctors from Florida were interested in Palo Verde and were about to sign on the dotted line, don't know for sure, but sounds like that deal also went south. Again, I hear all this INFO very second hand, so really I don't know.
However, I do know this, if I am kept out of the ANYTHING to do with selling or renting etc. Palo Verde or whatever the name happens to be or become, and/or don't see any of the money due me and the $6000+ owed me, I will continue my fight here on this blog.
So, for anyone interested in purchasing Palo Verde Resort you might want to get in touch with me as well, then you can decide for yourself if I'm full of shit or perhaps have legitimate concerns regarding my dealings with Gene Conti, Larry Bernstein and Palo Verde Resort. My advice, do your homework and gather ALL the information you can, talk to everyone, don't do as I did and learn the hard way.

Karma BITCH SLAPS the owner of Palo Verde Resort in La Fortuna Costa Rica, Eugene 'Gene' Conti.
YUP! Eugene 'Gene' Conti, owner of Palo Verde Resort in La Fortuna got BITCH SLAPPED by Karma and I gotta tell you, it brings a smile :) to my face. But before I tell you what Karma did, I will admit, if I still gave a f**K about Palo Verde I would be devastated as to the wrath Karma displayed on Gene Conti's (our) tiny resort.
I don't think I've ever posted a 'real' pic of Gene Conti or the other owner, Larry Bernstein. That's Gene on the left and Larry dead center.
Do you know what a Palo Verde is? Basically, it's a shrub with green leaves and branches, but most people think of it as meaning, 'a really BIG tree in Costa Rica', there's even a National Park here with the same name. Gene Conti also believed it meant 'really big tree' since he named Palo Verde Resort after this HUGE tree which sat on the property but had no equal. Let me tell you, this tree was the size of a small redwood, complete with it's own zip code and ecosystem. I liked this tree for the same reason I like the Arenal Volcano- there's just a magnificence about them, sorry, words escape me. I wish I had some pics as I'm sure you'd agree, but alas my pics got destroyed about 5 years ago when a lightening storm killed our harddrive. Needless to say, this 'Palo Verde' tree was the focal point of the entire property and about a month or so ago, it fell, right into the pool. SCORE!
What a fitting way for Karma to finally come around and bitch slap Gene Conti after his 7 years of so-called 'managing' Palo Verde. I hope Eugene Conti GETS IT, I pray he understands the irony of Palo Verde falling both literally and figuratively. Maybe this will encourage Gene Conti to self-reflect and possibly see the errors of his ways, although I seriously doubt it since he's got 60+ years of rationalizing his f'ed up business practices. *Not sure why Bernie Madoff popped into my head.
I can't take Gene Conti to court, yet anyway, but I'd like to think I have Karma working in my corner and the BEST part, I think she's happy to help me out. I'm betting she's got a 'past' with Mr. Conti and is enoying this as much as I am... I do however wish she would have left the tree and used a sink hole to swallow up Palo Verde, but who am I to question her methods?
*To the potential buyer of 'Palo Verde': Back when Gene purchased the property, it was like a diamond in the rough,,,now it's surrounded by heavily traveled roads and other hotels... and nicer hotels at that... now that the tree is gone, so is the heart of Palo Verde... so if you're going to buy it, bring another one, you're going to need it.

Eugene 'Gene' Conti is the primary owner of Palo Verde Resort in La Fortuna, Costa Rica, or at least what's left of it. We happened (D'Angelo and myself) to go by Palo Verde Resort 2 days ago on our way to Arenal Springs Hotel to pick-up a couple folks who were going on the zip line tour with us and noticed a cement slab where the BIG gay bar used to be. Hard to say what happened to the structure but I'm sure it had something to do with rotten bamboo. (Palo Verde didn't have much going for it, but the gay parties did draw a lot of fags). Regardless, Palo Verde has been empty for quite some time now ( I think anyway), so I can only imagine it must also smell ATROCIOUS. If you don't know anything about Costa Rica, it's very wet here,,,mold grows like it would on a loaf of bread here and just as FAST, and if not constantly taken care of......the mold almost takes on a life form... and a smelly one at that.

Gene Conti has ignored me for about 1 1/2 years now and I'm just wondering how its worked for him so far.
I'm not stupid. (Okay, I was a few years back when I got in a 'figurative' bed with Gene Conti) but I've learned many lessons since, so hopefully I've grown a bit, but anyway, I know this blog isn't read much, I just wonder if its ever had an impact or consequence on Gene Conti's attempt at selling the Palo Verde? I don't have the $$$$ to procure a good lawyer so I'm just hoping in this case the 'pen' is mightier than the sword... since it's my only recourse. I wonder. A sleepless night? A tear of frustration? A little hatred towards me? Lost a few bucks? I can't help but hope so.
I wonder if he ever wished he would have settled this shit with me in a more professional manner... like paying the $6,000+ Palo Verde owes me for starters? Is Gene Conti using deceptive advertising to sell Palo Verde Resort in La Fortuna Costa Rica? You be the judge. Gene Conti, Gene Conti, Gene Conti... what are you thinking? So, I'm cruising around the internet to find out information on Palo Verde Resort, which I happen to be part owner of but if you're a reader of this blog, you know Gene Conti keeps me out of the loop, so I have to find out what's going on myself. I find a website dedicated for the sole purpose of selling Palo Verde Resort: Palo Verde Resort For Sale or Lease Purchase 10 Room Turn-Key Costa Rica Hotel. This advertisement is deceptive to say the least.

See the picture on the left with the 2 bungalows and the Arenal Volcano in the background- totally PHOTO-shopped. Really, the only thing in back of those bungalows is sky. If you click on 'rooms', you will see the exact ame picture (Bungalows 5 & 6) minus the volcano...hmmmmmm. This photo is used as their primary shot to sell Palo Verde. Maybe you don't care Gene Conti used a little creativity in his ad....let me point out a few more things for your consideration.
*The pic on the right says, 'Incredible Volcano and Lava Views'. Lava is rarely visible from Palo Verde. It's true, a few years back there was a time when spewing lava was visible but hang out there for a few nights NOW and let me know how much 'lava' you see.
*Also on that same pic it says, $10,000+/monthly income potential. I won't say shit about this, just ask Gene Conti for the records and see how much he made during the last 7 years of owning and operating Palo Verde. I'm part owner, I haven't seen a DIME... and if I haven't seen a dime, then it only follows that Gene Conti also lost his ass... I guess Gene wasn't good with 'potential'.
*Same pic- 'Appraised for 1.7 million dollars in 08' Are you fuckin kidding me. That has absolutely NO relevance, NONE. Personally, I believe it's an inflated figure to begin with, someone would have had to be out of their mind to pay that much even back in '08. But I'll say I'm wrong and it was worth that 3 years ago... Today, offer Gene about $400,000 today and I'll bet he takes it. 'Sale Price Negotiable' is a vast understatement. Bottom line- the fact he posts the appraisal on the site is meaningless.

Here it mentions a 'Huge Pool'. Guys, this is the worst excuse for a pool I've ever seen. Shouldn't you be able to 'swim' in a pool? It's a BIG kids wading pool, that's it. When Gene first put in the 'pool' it was suppose to be hot water,,more jacuzzi style chillin' than swimming if you know what I mean. Hot Springs are very popular in the area Gene was hoping to capitalize. I don't know if he ran out of money or what, but the hot water never happened. This pool is exactly like the 'appraisal', worthless. Think I'm exaggerating... go look at it, but don't dive in or you'll break your neck... I might be a little off, I think the entire pool is like 4ft deep... That said, it does look good lit up at night.... so ENJOY, just remember, NO DIVING or SWIMMING!
*The ad mentions a 'Large Activity Party Center'... there was, but it was taken down. Maybe that's another 'potential' thing.
*I've always loved Palo Verde's setting, but to say, or allude to the fact that it's a 'Lush Rain Forest Setting' is simply not true. It's bordered by a small tree/foliage lined stream on one side and a road on the other. Their may be the illusion of a rain forest, but it's merely that, an illusion.
GO CHECK this stuff out for yourself if you're interested in Palo Verde. Ask Gene the questions and then watch him SQUIRM.

Palo Verde Resort in La Fortuna Costa Rica is FOR SALE but I wouldn't buy it. And in a minute I'll tell you a few of the reasons I wouldn't touch Palo Verde Hotel with a ten ft. pole. But really, my hope is that Eugene 'Gene' Conti receives his just deserts and winds up losing his ass on Palo Verde.
Here's a few of the main reasons I wouldn't touch Palo Verde:
* Palo Verde Resort has been open for a number of years and I would love to see how much positive cash flow it has generated over the years, you know, because it was such a money maker for it's owners, Gene Conti, Larry Bernstein and myself. Oh, that's right, I've NEVER seen a dime from the operations of Palo Verde... NEVER, in 6 years. Not sure how Gene Conti stayed open for so many years without making any money... I wonder?
* Hell, I'd be interested in seeing any of the paperwork associated with Palo Verde, I'm sure it's very 'creative' to say the least.
* I want to talk to the guy who appraised Palo Verde at 1.7 million dollars or was it 1.4...hmmmm, not sure, but I'm sure of one thing, it's not even remotely close to either of those figures. Forget that, maybe it should be RE-appraised NOW... that would be interesting.
* If I was even a little interested in Palo Verde, I would 'GOOGLE' it along with the names of the owners and see what comes up... even if you think I have an axe to grind, if you read this blog in reverse I do raise some legitimate concerns... just sayin.
* Me personally, I'm a LOT wiser now and within 5 minutes of meeting Gene Conti, I'd know and besides, Palo Verde has bad karma. (actually this dude to the right kinda looks like Gene...hehe)
* Way to many other options in the Arenal La Fortuna area, I'd keep looking.
The upside? When Eugene Gene Conti needs money,,, he will deal, so the possibility of picking up a rundown, mold smelling hotel with 'potential' for next to nothing is much more than likely. The longer Palo Verde is on the market, the better your chances of getting it for next to nothing. Unfortunately, Palo Verde reeks more than mold.
And if you happen to talk to Gene Conti could you remind him he still owes me $6300. I'd appreciate it.

I haven't written about Eugene 'Gene' Conti, primary owner of Palo Verde Resort in La Fortuna Costa Rica for the simple reason that there's nothing new to report. And if there is, I'm not privy to it. For all I know, Gene Conti could have sold Palo Verde Resort, I'm not sure how, since I own 10% (at least I think I do), but if there was a way to 'loophole' me out of the picture, I'm sure Gene Conti would have found it. Gene always was and I'm sure still is, a master fanageler. Whoever said, "Rob Peter to pay Paul" just may have been inspired by Gene Conti.
So, with that in mind, I'm wondering if anyone out there has a Gene Conti story they would like to share? Preferably in the area of business dealings?
What about YOU Larry Bernstein... I have a feeling you and Gene aren't that good a friends anymore... Bobby Blair.... what really happened with the whole, Arenal Bungalows thing? Come on, share, I'm sure it's a good yarn.

Does Eugene Gene Conti, primary owner of Palo Verde Resort in La Fortuna, Costa Rica sleep at night?
I'm betting he does but I didn't always believe that.
Eugene Gene Conti, principle owner of Palo Verde Resort in La Fortuna Costa Rica owes me money as well as a few answers. Gene Conti knows this. So, tell me, how does he sleep at night? Really, I want to know... and drugs don't count.
Like I mentioned, I used to naively believe that 'bad' people had a hard time sleeping for the simple reason that when they're lying on their pillow at night and its R-E-A-L quiet and the brain is working overtime reflecting on one's 'life', you know deep-down in your soul who you really are as a person no matter how hard you try to pretend otherwise. This is the time when it's extremely difficult to lie to yourself.
But if Gene Conti takes sleeping pills or Valium (not saying he does or doesn't, just sayin) this self-reflection time wouldn't happen for obvious reasons. Which is likely the reason most people take pills in the first place, to escape themselves for a time. But I understand, sometimes honesty is too hard to take, especially when it pertains to the REAL YOU. But I digress.
I still partially believe the above but now I have a better understanding that anyone can rationalize their own behavior no matter how fucked up it is. Whether it's beating the cat, cheating on a spouse, lying, stealing, ANYTHING no matter how bad, can be rationalized in order to give the responsibility for your actions to someone else. "If only the cat wouldn't pee on the bed",,, "If my wife wouldn't nag so much",,, "It will only hurt her if I tell her the truth",,,"He's got lots of money, he won't miss this $20.", doesn't matter, even Hitler thought he was doing the right thing.
I'm sure if you asked this fuck, he would be able to rationalize this animal cruelty:

This is merely an example, I'm sure if you asked Gene Conti he would have a list of reasons why he hasn't made good on his promises and contracts, all of which would be BULLSHIT, but in his mind, legitimate rationales for treating me the way he has while still feeling good about his own deceit.
btw-in the above example, Gene Conti had already made it blatantly obvious that he was keeping me out of the 'Palo Verde Resort is FOR SALE' loop. I felt this blog was my only recourse in order to get my story out. And even if no one reads it, it still makes me feel better putting it down on paper.
I've also learned in the world of real estate in Costa Rica that many people like Gene Conti and Larry Bernstein (Larry Bernstein is the other share holder of Palo Verde Resort in La Fortuna) can justify their actions because to them, it's NOT deceit or deception, it's BUSINESS- rendering it a game you either WIN or LOSE. But not just a game, more like a WAR game, where there are no rules, thus justifying the 'anything goes' mentality and ZERO moral accountability because it's not personal, it's business. In Gene Conti's case, he used our supposed friendship to mask the fact he merely wanted my money, so in his mind he just played a better game to get what he wanted. And in hindsight, obviously he did since I never knew we were playing a game in the first place. He also knows I can't afford a lawyer at this time, so why on EARTH would he just do the right thing... to him, that would be a stupid business move. CHECKMATE.
Gene Conti sleeps fine. But I'd be willing to bet my 10% of Palo Verde Resort that he has help doing it because otherwise,the honesty of who he truly is as a human being would be too much to handle.

Palo Verde Resort in La Fortuna Costa Rica owes me $6,394.00.
This is an open letter to Palo Verde Resorts principle owners, Eugene 'Gene' Conti and Larry Bernstein.
I used my own money $3,394.00, (I have the receipts) for repairs, maintenance, new curtains and what not for the betterment of the resort + the $3,000.00 Palo Verde Resort owes to D'Angelo Valentin for services rendered, which if you remember, was agreed on by ALL partners. I was (am) part owner and was happy to help out as I expected GREAT things from my investment. At the time, I cared about Palo Verde Resort. Now, I no longer do, but that's beside the point.
My question is, since Palo Verde Resort, aka Eugene Gene Conti and Larry Bernstein, reneged on its initial promise to pay me in FULL when Palo Verde sold some land it had (when was that, like 2 years ago), when will I see my money?
I would be interested to hear your rationalization of why you haven't or don't think you have to pay me. Feel free to respond in the comment section of this post I will gladly print your response unedited.

Thinking of buying Palo Verde Resort in La Fortuna Costa Rica?
Apparently Eugene Gene Conti has not SOLD Palo Verde Resort aka Arenal Bungalows in La Fortuna Costa Rica. I had heard scuttlebutt an Italian guy had purchased it but that doesn't appear to be TRUE, or at least the SALE was never completed, not sure.
The good NEWS is, if Gene Conti hasn't SOLD Palo Verde Resort yet, your chances of getting a great DEAL are INCREASED big time for reasons I've mentioned in previous posts. Unfortunately for Gene Conti in regards to Palo Verde Resort, there are already really good deals on LAND and HOTELS in the La Fortuna, Arenal area and Palo Verde Resort is just ONE of many, so make sure you do your homework. You might want to start by reading this blog in the reVERSE as I think it paints an accurate picture of what happened to me although I do understand MOST of you don't know me from Adam and have no reason to believe me. Hell, don't believe it or not believe it, just take it for more INFO so you can make a more well informed decision.
Homework Tip #1: Get a lawyer who has NO connection to the 'seller' and let them RESEARCH the answers to the questions you may have about legalities and what not.

Eugene 'Gene' Conti the primary owner of Palo Verde Resort in La Fortuna Costa Rica is still keeping me in the DARK as to what's going on with the resort.
***Sold? Not Sold? In the works? What? still NOTHING.***
The scuttlebutt is that Gene Conti SOLD Palo Verde Resort to an Italian guy. This may or may not be true, hard to say. As a 10% owner of Palo Verde Resort in La Fortuna, you would have thought I'd have to sign a few papers if the place switched hands, but again, hard to say. I'm not sure if I'm even 'on' the paperwork anymore. And I haven't seen the other principle owner of Palo Verde around La Fortuna either, Larry Bernstein. This is a small town, seems like I would have seen him or at least heard he was in town.... NOTHING. Still not sure of Larry's and Gene's relationship, also hard to say. Gene Conti usually doesn't have anything to do with others unless it's in his BEST interest... and once it's not, the relationship is severed. It's possible Larry feels the same way about Gene Conti as I do and wants nothing to do with him...... have I said, "hard to say" yet?
I've obviously not been successful in my bid to procure a lawyer or I would know the answers. And If I had some money, I'd have a lawyer..... blah, blah, blah.
I continue to do what I do, work on our websites, make our videos and LOOK forward. I try not to dwell on the negativity of Gene Conti, Larry Bernstein, Palo Verde Resort and even our old 'friend', Nico Pisani. But let's face it, I bought into 10% of Palo Verde and if it's been SOLD I should be collecting some money, not to mention the $6,000+ owed to me by Gene Conti and Palo Verde Resort. And not to doubly mention Nico Pisani who also owes me $20,000+ as well, which is an entirely different issue. *That story is quite interesting.... you're not going to want to miss it.... it's coming, don't worry. In that saga, I was a different kind of STUPID.
For the RECORD, although I don't dwell on Gene Conti and Palo Verde, it needs to be made right eventually, and when I'm able to, I'll be taking someone to COURT if Palo Verde Resort has indeed SOLD..... without me seeing my 10%
